The outboard motor is usually mounted on the transom of the vessel mostly at the back of the boat. The outboards that were previously available were simply two-stroke engine. However, in the recent past, there are some environmental friendly and low emission engines that have been developed such as the two stroke, four stroke and the direct fuel injection. With the old models of the two stroke engine, oil would be mixed with gasoline in order to lubricate engine. On the other hand, the DFI four-stroke and two-stroke engines require the separation of gasoline and oil. On top of running smoother quieter, the low emission engines are usually more environmental-friendly.
