One of the key decisions that you may need to make in regard to your boat is in choosing a good propeller and engine. The horsepower and weight of the engine will impact the boat’s performance. When the correct pitch and size of the propeller, this can make the engine and boat to work in a manner that will enable it to achieve the desired maximum performance. When you make the right choice of marine shops you will be guided through the process. However, you will need to know the right question that you need to ask if you are to get what you need.

The outboard motor is usually mounted on the transom of the vessel mostly at the back of the boat. When operating, the propeller and gear case of the boat is usually submerged and it is possible for it to be titled out of water when you are not using it. This can prevent any kind of corrosion or even marine growth and this makes them the perfect choice for use in fresh or salt water. When steering the outboard, the engine has to be mounted on the mount and this direct the thrust of the propeller.
Today we have outboards that range in power from the 2.5 HP to more than 350 HP for each engine. However, there are a few that are available that boasts a horsepower of over 500.

The outboards that were previously available were simply two-stroke engine. However, in the recent past, there are some environmental friendly and low emission engines  that have been developed such as the two stroke, four stroke and the direct fuel injection. With the old models of the two stroke engine, oil would be mixed with gasoline in order to lubricate engine. On the other hand, the DFI four-stroke and two-stroke engines require the separation of gasoline and oil. On top of running smoother quieter, the low emission engines are usually more environmental-friendly.
